Clive Yip is a Senior Advisor based in Exiger’s Hong Kong office. He provides strategic support to both the due diligence and advisory businesses of the firm. Clive has more than 23 years of experience in financial crime compliance, reputation risk management, investigations and audit experience from major global institutions.
Clive joined Exiger from the Business Intelligence Group (BIG team) at the Hong Kong office of Goldman Sachs where he was the lead on the review of investment banking transactions (particularly IPOs) and private equities investments in the Greater China Region (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau) between March 2007 to August 2019. During his tenure at BIG, he led the review of some of the most challenging transactions and investments, leveraging on internal and external investigation and legal resources to address financial crime compliance and regulatory issues identified. Sometimes, that entails enhancements of the compliance programs of the clients and portfolio companies. He also advised senior management, internal and external clients on matters related to economic sanctions (particularly by OFAC), money-laundering, bribery & corruption (including FCPA), and other financial crimes or reputational risk-related matters.
Before joining Goldman Sachs, Clive was a Vice President of the Internal Audit Department at JPMorgan between 2001-2007, covering its investment banking, asset management, private banking, trading and private equities businesses across various offices in the Asia Pacific. During his tenure with JPM, Clive tested internal controls designed to mitigate risks identified for each of the businesses; and advised senior management on control enhancements and governance matters. Clive also spent three months at HSBC Group where he was the Head of Reputation Risk & Client Selection, Asia Pacific. Before that, he was a Regional Auditor at the ING Group where he conducted internal audit reviews and re-acquisition reviews during 2000-2001.
Clive began his career in 1996 at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he served as a senior associate in their Audit & Assurance as well as Financial Advisory Departments.
